What is the InstaScope?
This new instrument is changing how professionals perform mold tests, mold inspections, and mold removal.
InstaScope is the new way to sample air and receive real-time information about every room so you can know if mold is present in a structure. After a mold inspection, it can take days for the lab results to come back. InstaScope can evaluate airborne particles instantly and generate reports on-site.
Mold can be visible; it can also be airborne. With InstaScope’s unlimited sampling ability, get a whole-area scan and report for every room. Remove the guesswork of where to sample.
Designed with mobility in mind, the InstaScope can inspect a larger area or more rooms, making sure small area samples don’t determine the overall results of the whole structure.
Pure Restore uses InstaScope for many reasons. Most importantly, it helps get accurate data in the timeliest fashion available.
How does it work?
- Particles enter through the InstaScope wand and flow into the instrument’s chamber.
- Inside the optical chamber, the mold particle is hit with a laser beam which determines its size. Based on the particle’s size, it will bathe the particle in UV light.
- The fluorescent light is then analyzed by the computer to determine specific size, color, and color intensity of the particle. This is called biofluorescence and is what differentiates particles from one another.
- Results are displayed in real-time on iPad and ready to review on-site.
InstaScope worked closely with University of Colorado researchers to create a “signature” library by culturing, aerosolizing, and capturing the optical properties of a wide range of bioaerosols including fungi, mold, bacteria and viruses.
The results of this work have been published in several peer-reviewed scientific journals and constitute the first work of its kind. This ever-expanding library is the basis that allows InstaScope to make real-time decisions about the identity of an airborne particle.
Using sophisticated algorithms, InstaScope can analyze particle data and produce results that are consistent and unbiased. The instrument uses outdoor and indoor airborne biology measurements to create a report that captures the air quality profile of a structure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long does an average scan take?
A: The duration of the scan depends on the cubic volume of the area being scanned. Average household rooms usually take 3-5 minutes per room.
Q: How long does a full session take?
A:The average inspection for a home is 30-45 minutes but can vary with floorplans and spaces.
Q: What does the report tell me?
A: The results of an InstaScope inspection deliver critical insight into a property. It will provide scan-by-scan mold comparisons for each room, a scan-by-scan comparison of fine airborne particles PM2.5 & PM10, and include any images of primary concern within a structure.
Q: Why is the InstaScope better than other technologies/methods out there?
A: InstaScope is the only instrument in the world to measure indoor air quality in real-time. Traditional methods like aerosol cassettes only give you a snapshot of a structure’s air quality, but InstaScope gives you the full picture with a space and time integrated sample. Consistent monitoring in real-time takes away waiting on labs for results and inaccurate readings due to constantly changing conditions.
Who makes the InstaScope?
DetectionTek, LLC is a technology company located in Boulder, CO. The company was founded in 2014 to further the technology from the Ministry of Defense in the UK for real-time bioaerosol detection.
This includes mold, bacteria and pollen. They work closely with leading research institutions and service providers to bring to market state-of-the-art technology with real-time measurement for exposure assessment.
InstaScope is proudly assembled, calibrated and optically aligned in the USA.
Multiple site visits and follow-ups to go over results can turn costly and time consuming for a customer. We are one of a few companies in Colorado who utilize the InstaScope to get live and accurate results for air quality. Feel free to call 303-955-7072 with any questions! We are happy to educate local residents about this cutting-edge instrument.
